Judson ISD Board Approves Resolution to Extend COVID-19 Paid Leave
During a regular board meeting on January 21, 2021, the Judson ISD Board of Trustees approved a resolution to extend COVID-19 paid leave. The federally provided leave through the Families First Coronavirus Response Act (FFCRA) had recently expired on December 31, 2020, meaning the District would no longer be legally required to provide such leave.
The approved resolution extends emergency paid sick leave to employees who miss work because of a COVID-19 infection or quarantine related to direct exposure of someone infected with the virus. Employees who did not use this leave in the fall semester will now be able to access up to 10 days of paid leave to be used specifically for COVID-19 related absences.
The leave will be available to all Judson ISD employees. “We hope that many of our Judson staff do not have to use this leave but we want to make sure that their health and well-being continues to be a priority. This resolution provides relief to our employees that are worried about having to use their own personal leave time,” Superintendent Dr. Ball explained. “We are so grateful to have the support of our Board who always prioritizes the needs of our Judson family.”
After the resolution was approved unanimously, Board Vice President Suzanne Kenoyer said “I am very happy that we are doing this.” The Board saw an immediate need to support our educators and staff and provide flexibility amidst the challenges of the pandemic. The action taken will be retroactive from the beginning of the year for those who did have to use their own personal days.
