District high schools participate in Texas Academic Invitational

Judson ISD competed in the Bandera Texas Academic Decathlon Invitational on December 9 and 10 to test their knowledge of this year’s theme - the American Revolution and the New Nation.

During the Bandera Invitational, Judson ISD competed against several districts from surrounding areas in Texas. Among those districts were last year’s Academic Decathlon State and National Champions, as well as multiple repeat state champions.

With such high-powered competition, Judson ISD was delighted to take home multiple medals and ribbons in both large and small school divisions. Wagner took 3rd place for the top overall school score in the small/medium school division.

Academic Decathlon is a national scholastic competition in which students take timed tests to demonstrate their knowledge of science, mathematics, music, art, literature, economics, and social science around a curricular theme. Additional portions of the competition include an essay, interview, and speeches.

Students compete as individuals and as part of their school team and competitors have the opportunity to compete for scholarship money. Competition levels are decided by school size and grade point averages. Judson High School competes in the large school division, while Wagner, Veterans Memorial, and JECA compete in the small/medium school division.

The following is a list of the students who won medals (1st-3rd place) and ribbons (4th-5th place) in their respective school and grade divisions:

Small/medium schools-It should be noted that the National and State Champions compete in the small/medium school division.

Large School Division-It should be noted that one of the teams Judson competed against has multiple state championships and has had a well-supported, stable team for 25 years.
