JECA film selected as a state finalist

This past Wednesday, February 22, the JECA UIL Film team participated in the UIL State Film Contest in Austin, TX. Mia Youngblood, along with her team, submitted "In Check", a film about two high school students competing in a high-stakes game of chess. In the film, students learn valuable lessons about each other, themselves, and what's important in life. The film was very successful and highly praised by the state judges and made it to the state quarterfinals.

"In Check" was nominated for the Nobelity Social Impact Award. An award is given to student films promoting social change. Given during the UIL Young Filmmakers Festival, this award honors short films that inform and inspire audiences about issues that the teams care about.

"In Check" was selected as a state finalist as one of the final 4 films remaining in the state of Texas for the Nobelity Social Impact Award and was invited to the State Film Festival at the LBJ auditorium in Austin, TX. Though they didn't come away with first place, being a finalist was a tremendous honor and we are so proud of their efforts.
