On March 9, the Judson ISD Family did what they do best - come together to make a difference for others. The 3rd Annual Bryce Wisdom Blood Drive was an incredible success, garnering over 105 units of blood, the largest donation in the three-year history of the event. Those 105 units have the potential to save 315 lives.
The drive is a partnership between the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center, Judson ISD,and the Bryce Wisdom Foundation. The event is organized by Dr. Jennifer Carrillo and her Judson High School Medical Assistant Practicum students.
“It gives our students real-life experience that is valuable. I am so proud of their work to make this year’s drive our most successful yet,” Carrillo said.
The blood drive coincides with Bryce Wisdom’s birthday and is a tribute to his life. Wisdom was a Judson High School student and football player who courageously battled a rare form of kidney cancer known as Wilm’s tumor. Known for his infectious smile, his story continues to inspire the Judson ISD community.
“I am so thankful that Judson does this every year. I’m just so appreciative of everybody being so selfless, helping others and saving others’ lives. It is the greatest gift to give in honor of Bryce,” Bryce’s mother, Diana Wisdom, said.
The first slots allocated by the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center were filled over a week prior to the event. This is not surprising to Superintendent Dr. Rob Fields.
“The Judson ISD Family always shows up. They take care of one another and the success of Bryce’s blood drive in just another example of that,” Fields said.
JISD would like to thank the community for braving the weather to give blood and save lives.
