Judson ISD, in partnership with University Health, officially opened the JISD Wraparound and Health Center on September 5, 2025. The facility is designed to bring essential health services directly to the community. The center offers a wide range of physical and mental health resources, reinforcing the district’s commitment to supporting student well-being as a foundation for academic achievement.
“This is an investment in our community,” said JISD Superintendent Dr. Milton Fields. “This partnership gives us the ability to serve not only our students but also our community. This is going to make a world of difference for families to be able to get daily healthcare right here, in their community.”
The facility is a joint effort between Judson ISD and University Health, with each side offering specialized services. University Health provides comprehensive primary care to the entire community, including immunizations, chronic illness management, and mobile clinics offering specific services such as mammograms. Families can access care in person or through telehealth appointments, making healthcare more accessible than ever.
“We invite your family to come to the clinic so we can help take care of your healthcare needs,” said Dr. Leo Lopez III, medical director for the Institute for Public Health and School-Based Health. “It is our great honor to provide health care to families in partnership with Judson ISD.”
On the JISD side of the facility, students, staff, and families have access to mental health services, language therapy, and counseling, all designed to remove barriers to learning and promote emotional well-being. These wraparound services reflect the district’s holistic approach to education, recognizing that students thrive academically when their physical and emotional needs are met.
Even before its official opening, the center had already made a significant impact. Monica Garcia, JISD Director of Student and Family Services, shared that the facility had served over 760 students through early access to services. She also acknowledged the vital role of community support in making the center a reality.
“Without the support of our community, our dream would not have transformed into this vision of exceptional service,” Garcia said, extending special thanks to the Bexar County Department of Behavioral Health, which contributed funding through the American Rescue Plan Act.
JISD Board President Monica Ryan expressed her gratitude to Dr. Fields, campus administrators, counselors, social workers and the Student and Family Support Services Department for their dedication to making the center a reality.
“Your commitment to the mental health and social-emotional well-being of our students, families, and staff on every campus, every day is what makes Judson so special,” Ryan said.
She also reflected on how the pandemic shifted perspectives around mental health, helping normalize conversations about emotional well-being and applauded the district’s commitment to focus on mental health.
The center’s opening also marks a step forward for University Health’s presence in the area. President Ed Banos emphasized the long-term vision behind the partnership, noting that the new clinic is part of a broader expansion within Judson ISD, including the upcoming hospital at Retama Park, set to open in 2027.
“These clinics further our commitment to ensuring access to primary health care and preventing illness at the earliest ages,” Banos said. “This is how we build a stronger, healthier community for the future.”
The JISD Wraparound and Health Center shows how meaningful partnerships can strengthen schools and communities. By working together, Judson ISD and its partners have created a space that supports students and families in ways that go beyond the classroom, helping the whole community thrive.
