Teacher holding a certificate standing with Leadership

Crestview Elementary is celebrating a major win for student learning thanks to RTI teacher Cynthia Crocker, who was awarded a $10,610 grant from the Assistance League of San Antonio. The grant will fund the school's annual 5th-grade science camp, an overnight experience where students engage in hands-on learning that brings science to life.

The award was presented by Mary Parazo from the Assistance League’s Enhanced Learning Grant Committee. Campus leadership and members of the Crestview PTO, Judson ISD Board, and Cabinet were also there to celebrate Ms. Crocker. Out of 59 applications submitted, only 20 were selected for funding.

“This is what we're here for,” said Parazo. “We are honored to be able to provide this to you for a wonderful learning experience for students.”

Principal Cynthia Valdillez knows the impact this grant will have on Crestview and its students.

“We are so grateful to the Assistance League of San Antonio for their generous support of our campus. I am so proud of Ms. Crocker for her initiative and thoughtful approach in securing funding that directly benefits our students and school community,” Valdillez said.

The grant offsets the cost of the camp, which is typically supported by the campus and PTO. In past years, the PTO has contributed between $3,000 and $4,000 to make the camp possible. This grant will free up funds for other projects and learning opportunities for students.

This grant award highlights how educator initiative and strong community partnerships can work together to expand meaningful experiences for students. Congratulations to Ms. Crocker and Crestview Elementary!
