Our cadets traveled to Stinson Municipal Airport and upon arrival, the Civil Air Patrol (CAP) immediately briefed them on the schedule of events. 14 of the cadets volunteered to participate in the planned incentive flights, while the others participated in ground activities.
Before the flights begun, they all headed outside to get a tour of some vintage but still operational WWII aircraft. Once finished, our volunteers started their incentive flights in a Cessna 172 (4-seat propeller trainer).
Upon taking off, our cadets were able to get a view our amazing city of San Antonio. Some cadets even took control over the plane upon saying “I have the flight controls!” They were also able to fly over the dam of San Antonio, the power plant, and the Tower of the Americas.
After lunch, most of our cadets (not flying) were taken to the to the Stinson Historical Museum. They were taught a lot about aviation history, specifically who the airport and museum was named after as well as how women had a great impact in our country's efforts and origin in aviation.
After the museum trip, they had an actual student CAP pilot and high school senior share her experiences as well as her preparation to solo later that day.
All in all, it was an amazing experience for all who attended, especially for our adets who now want to become pilots themselves.
